Carbon Cycle

Carbon is one of the main building blocks of life, present in people, plants, animals, rocks and oceans. it is released naturally into the environment via volcanoes, forest fires and the weathering of rocks. Once released the carbon is then recycled by natural process. Trees absorb carbon dioxide and give off oxygen; which we then breath.

Levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) have increased as human activity has disrupted the natural carbon cycle. Carbon that was beneath the ground as coal, oil etc is now being released and power stations, factories and cars have increased the levels of carbon dioxide.

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is one of the greenhouse gases and is responsible for 70% of human induced global warming.
